The Barça defence was outstanding against Atlético Madrid and not just in repelling the visitors’ attack. Going forward, three of the four blaugrana goals in the win came from defenders with Jordi Alba, Ronald Araujo and Dani Alves all finding the in the 4-2 win at Camp Nou.
With those three goals Barça defenders have now scored eight times this season, 22% of their total in La Liga, more than any other side. The blaugranes head the rankings along with Villarreal, followed by Valencia on seven and then Real Madrid and Osasuna on six.
Of the eight scored, Ronald Araujo has three, Sergi Roberto two and Jordi Alba, Piqué and Alves all have one each. Gerard Piqué has also scored in the Champions League this season.
Against Atlético Madrid no les than three defenders scored in the match, an event without precedent in recent years for the blaugranes. Goals from Jordi Alba, Araujo and Alves meant three men from the back had scored in the same game for Barça for the first time this century and for the first time in La Liga since 2016 when Danilo, Pepe and Sergio Ramos scored for Real Madrid in a game against Osasuna.
In the FIFA Club World Cup in 2011 against Al Sadd, Adriano scored twice and Maxwell also scored, three goals from defenders but without it being three different players.
