Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has named Joelinton and Ryan Fraser in his latest Premier League team of the week.
The pair combined for the Magpies’ first goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Brentford.
Fraser’s cross from the left-hand side was met by a bullet header from our Brazilian number seven who opened the scoring for Eddie Howe’s side.
Joe Willock added a second on the stroke of half-time which was a hammer blow for Thomas Frank’s 10-man Bees.
The win at the Brentford Community Stadium saw us leapfrog the promoted side in the Premier League table and move up to 14th in the table.
The Toon Army are currently in the midst of a seven-game unbeaten run in the Premier League and that will hopefully be extended to eight when we host a Brighton side, that has lost three straight games, at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Following their influential roles in our latest win, Fraser and Joelinton are likely to retain their places against Graham Potter’s side.
And after being included in the Premier League all-time top goalscorer’s team of the week, the pairs confidence is likely to be soaring.
Justifying his decision to include Joelinton in his team, Shearer said: “The Brazilian looks reborn in midfield under Eddie Howe and scored an excellent goal.”
The 25-year-old has started every single game since Howe took over the reins and ushered the club into a new chapter.
Joelinton’s transformation under the former Bournemouth boss has been mesmeric and he’s quickly turning into one of the Premier League’s most formidable box-to-box midfielders.
Fraser, who has started the last nine Premier League matches, looks to be recapturing the form that saw him shine under Howe at Bournemouth.
Explaining Fraser’s inclusion, Shearer said: “A constant threat down the left with superb crosses into the box, finding Joelinton for Newcastle’s opening goal.”
Just like Alan Shearer, every Newcastle fan is loving the drastic change in fortunes we are seeing under Howe compared to his predecessor Steve Bruce.
Both Ryan Fraser and Joelinton have played huge roles in the club’s recent renaissance and their inclusion in Shearer’s team highlights how impressive they were at the weekend.
