Thanks to his 15 goals in 25 Serie A games, Hellas Verona striker Giovanni Simeone is the most prolific Argentinean player in Europe’s top five leagues.
The 26-year-old moved to the Stadio Bentegodi on loan from Cagliari last summer. Hellas have an option to make the player’s move permanent for €12m at the end of the season.
The son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego has scored 15 goals in 24 leagues games with Verona, including a hat-trick during Sunday’s 3-1 win over Venezia. He hadn’t scored in the previous eight matches.
“I needed these goals even if sometimes a striker needs to help the team more than scoring,” he told DAZN after the match yesterday.
“Igor Tudor is an excellent person with a big heart. He gives us extra motivation and this makes us feel well.”
Simeone has played 24 games with Verona and one with Cagliari, having joined the Gialloblu after matchday 1 in Serie A.
Simeone is now the most prolific Argentinean player in Europe’s top five leagues. He has done even better than Leo Messi, Lautaro Martinez and Paulo Dybala.
Messi has scored two goals in Ligue 1 games this season and five in the Champions League. Lautaro and Dybala have 11 and 7 Serie A goals, respectively. The Inter striker hasn’t scored in the last 13 Champions League matches, while Dybala has added three more goals in four European games this season.
