Sevilla unable to secure three points at Espanyol
Real Madrid put the disappointing defeat against Paris Saint-Germain behind them as they returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Alaves on Saturday evening.
In doing so, Carlo Ancelotti‘s side retook the initiative in the LaLiga Santander title race, and they have regained their six-point lead over Sevilla at the top of the LaLiga Santander table.
Los Blancos gave Sevilla no margin for error ahead of their trip to face Espanyol on Sunday, but Julen Lopetegui‘s side could only muster a 1-1 draw.
That Real Madrid have been able to regain that six-point lead at the top of the LaLiga Santander table is a significant boost given their stuttering league form so far in 2022.
Los Blancos have played six league matches in the calendar year so far and have come away with three victories, two draws and one defeat, as they have picked up only 11 out of 18 possible points.
However, Sevilla have also struggled so far in 2022, and they have been unable to take advantage of Real Madrid’s recent slump.
Lopeteguui’s side have secured three victories and have drawn four times, picking up 13 out of 21 possible points.
Real Madrid have 13 matches of the LaLiga Santander season remaining, and they will be eager to continue to increase the advantage they currently hold over Sevilla.
They still have seven away matches to play, featuring trips to face Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, and they also welcome Barcelona to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, and round off the campaign at home to Real Betis.
