Liverpool gets back to league play Saturday and will try to continue its dominance when it hosts West Ham United in an English Premier League match. The Reds (18-6-2) are on a 14-game unbeaten run in all competitions and won the League Cup a week ago in a dramatic penalty shootout against Chelsea. It also advanced to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win against Norwich City on Wednesday. West Ham (13-6-8) lost to Southampton in the FA Cup on Wednesday and is 2-2-0 in its last four Premier League matches, beating Wolves 1-0 in its last EPL outing. The Hammers pulled off a shocking 3-2 win the last time these teams met back in November.
Kickoff from Anfield is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET. Caesars Sportsbook lists Liverpool as the -345 favorite (risk $345 to win $100) on the 90-minute money line in its latest Liverpool vs. West Ham odds, with West Ham the +900 underdog. A draw is priced at +470 and the over-under for total goals scored is 3.5. The Reds will have revenge on their minds and a vocal home crowd behind them. The November loss snapped a 25-game unbeaten run for Liverpool and cost it a chance to set the club record. It was 8-2-0 in the previous 10 games against the Hammers. Its biggest issue in the loss was on set pieces and corners, an area it should be able to fix with Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk patrolling the middle. They hold a strong line in front of world-class goalkeeper Alisson, and Liverpool has conceded just 20 goals in its 26 league matches.
Liverpool has not lost this season at Anfield, going 10-3-0 and outscoring opponents 36-7. It has allowed the second-fewest shots in the league (212), while firing off the most (501). That is one reason for its prolific goal number, as it leads the EPL with 70. The other reason is the quality of its attackers, with league goals leader Mohamed Salah (19) joined by Diogo Jota (12) and Sadio Mane (11). Luis Diaz, who has one goal after scoring 14 in 18 matches with Porto, is another headache for opponents.
The Hammers have been a decent road team this season, taking 21 points from 13 matches with a plus-6 goal differential. They know they need points if they want to stay in the race for a top-four spot. They are fifth in the EPL table, but No. 6 Arsenal (three games) and seventh-place Tottenham (two) both have played fewer matches. West Ham should have confidence from that win in November, when they befuddled the Reds with their set pieces. Kurt Zouma and Pablo Fornals scored and Alisson had an own goal, with two of the goals coming on corner kicks.
West Ham has the fourth-most goals in the Premier League, led by Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen with eight apiece. They have combined for 15 assists, and Fornals has scored five times. Antonio had the lone goal in the loss to the Saints on Wednesday. The Hammers have scored at least once in 13 of their last 14 games.
Green has analyzed West Ham vs. Liverpool from all sides, and he is leaning over on the goal total. He also provides his two confident best bets, one with a plus-money payout, and has a full breakdown of the match. He’s only sharing his expert EPL picks at SportsLine.
